Each author will talk about their favourite painting in The Courtauld Gallery. For centuries, Venice has inspired intellectuals, writers and artists with its ravishing beauty, riches and strangeness. Now, in a major exhibition, fourteen internationally renowned artists have created a series of meaningful and original photographic images of Venice, perhaps the most photographed but seriously threatened city in the world. The resulting images show Venice in all its beauty, but also in all its paradoxes and contrasts.

Forgotten Spaces is about looking at the future development of our cities differently. Based on an open ideas competition run by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), architects, engineers, students and designers of all kinds were invited to submit proposals for overlooked spaces across Greater London, the exhibition showcases a range of imaginative proposals from all over the capital and explores alternative ways to use and interact with urban space.

Two remarkable, distinct bodies of work by renowned photographers Sebastião Salgado and Per Anders Pettersson will highlight the plight of the Amazonian rainforest and the people living within it. Sebastião Salgado will present previously unseen work from his ongoing photographic essay 'Genesis' – portraying landscapes in their most pristine state, and the communities still living in them; Per Anders Pettersson presents photographs from a recent visit to Brazil with actress Gemma Arterton, illustrating the stark reality and level of devastation caused by deforestation and showcasing the work which aims to tackle it.

Dazed & Confused has been a go-to reference for style and culture since its explosive launch in London in 1991 by Jefferson Hack and renowned photographer Rankin. This multi-layered exhibition, curated by Jefferson Hack and Emma Reeves in collaboration with Somerset House,  immortalises the magazine's most infamous visual stories, featuring legendary photoshoots, iconic covers, controversial editorial content and artwork from influential photographers, designers, and artists.

On Thurs 27 Oct, there's another autumn Studio Day The Frozen Image where you can explore early forms of photography. Make your own camera obscura before discovering how to take haunting and atmospheric digital images inspired by the past. For under 5s, our special half-term Mini Make Believe Hubble Bubble is sure to amuse, with spooky Halloween songs and games for the little ones.
